The Aquarium
Miss O' Riordan's class went to salthill Aquarium.
We went into the laboratory and looked at shells and seaweed under
a digital microscope. We did experiments and put a tablet in water in a bottle
and it exploded and hit the roof! We were thought how to filter water through sand
and about different types of fish, or which ones would be suitable for our classroom.
Finally, we took the tour.I held three starfish and fed the fish!At the end of the day we
went to the park. Then we had to go back to school.Shame!
A day out at the Aquiarium
On March the 20th 3rd and 4th class went to the Aquarium, heres the layout.
1. We divided into two groups and took turns with experiments and computers.
2.We had lunch.
3.We went to a classroom and learnt how to care for animals.
4.finally we took a trip to see all the animals and answered questions about there habitats.
5.We went to a park , it was really fun.
All in all it was lovely.I have no real favourites. The experiments were really fun we got to see what salt water with colouring did when it mixed with fresh water. We made boats out of plasticene and saw if they would float. We made a water flannel. We made a rocket. When we saw the animals my favourite bit of it was picking up the starfish.
Our School Tour To The Aquarium
Tuesday 20th March we left with mums and dads to go to a school tour to the aquarium. We were met by two girls at the aquarium who were going to take us on a tour around.First we went to the science room.We looked through computerised microscopes at shells and shark eggs and lots of other things.Next the classroom where we learned about tough fish and fish that are weak.We talked about sand and how water would sink in leaving dirt behind. The girls took us around looking at different species of fish like salmon, small sharks, cod, sting rays which we got to touch. There was aconger eel and the amazing thing is it can swim backwards.Sea horses, the male has 2,000 babies they are going extinct. It was a great day.By Kevin

On my visit to the aquaruim I leared that...
That sand can filter the water.
I also learned that Turtles eat Jelly fish in the aquarium. we did experiments on boats and rockets . There was lots of fish in the aquaruim. My favourite fish was Valintine. I realy liked the splash tank. I also liked the sea hourse but i did not understand how the male sea hourse was pregnant. I realy liked to feed to the mullet.

On the 20/3/07 our class went to salthill. This is what happened: first we went aquarium we were introduced to our guides, Emily and Cathlene. then they told us about the aquarium, after that we went to the lab.
The Labaratory
In the lab we were seperrated into two groups. I was in the first group so I got to do the experements first. Then we got parteners and we started experementing. The first experement was how to filter water without a proper filter, this will only work if you wlive neer the sea. Each pair got a cup of sand, we got a cup of dirty water, a round jar of gradvated cylender and some filter paper. First you put the gradvated cylender in the jar, then you put in th filter paper, after that you put in the sand and dirty water and when the water comes out it is perfectly clean!
Next we got a fishtank divided with a divider, in one half we had salt water and in the other we had bottled. Next we put red food water in the salt water. After that we lifted the divider and watched to see would it mix. But it didn't because clean water is lighter. When that was finnished we got a ball of playdough each we had to make a boat that wouldn't sink, suprisingly mine floated

A taste of school history
The present school –Scoil Chiarain Naofa was built in 1954 in the townland of cloosh .It replaced the old national school which was first opened on January 1st 1852 and now quaintly restored as a summer residence.
BUT !!!!
Early education began in Doorus with the setting up of a hedge school in Doorus in Knocknacillen during the end of the 18th century as a result of the penal law system and its consequential rules
enacted by the British parliament during the reign of William 111 and queen Anne.
Such rules were known as the
penal laws and educational laws included
No catholic could set up a school
No catholic could become a lawyer ,judge
No catholic could become a teacher
No catholic could go to another country to be educated
